# How to buy retro consoles from Japan

Japan is 100 V. A 100–240 V label is a different problem from a 100 V-only supply.

Estimates only. Not a quote, not a customs ruling, and not an offer to sell or ship. Confirm fees, prohibitions, and duty with the proxy and with destination customs. Figures can change after the last-verified date.

JapanLanded may later earn a commission when someone uses a referral link. Affiliate enrollments are not in place, so outbound links are public pages, not tracked referrals. We do not sell the goods. Names of proxies and products are used to describe them and are their owners' trademarks.

## Power and cells

Kansai Electric documents the 100 V supply and the east/west frequency split. Yamaha's FAQ, written for instruments, is the source we use for the practical split: 100–240 V usually means a plug adapter, and 100 V only means a step-down transformer. Read the label on the unit. We do not keep a model-by-model list.

The Japan Post EMS country list names Germany in zone 3. The EU €150 relief story is an unverified secondary claim and is not treated as law here. A lithium battery inside a handheld is a Japan Post question, separate from voltage.

## Worked example

15000 yen, 900 g, Germany. Export check: nothing in this dataset blocks export to Germany. Use check: Japan is 100 V. Eastern Japan is 50 Hz and western Japan is 60 Hz. Voltage was not confirmed. Read the label. 100–240 V usually means a plug adapter. 100 V only needs a step-down transformer. This does not block export. It is about whether the gear will run. This is not a customs clearance.

| Proxy | Pay now, known | EMS reference |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Buyee | ¥15,650 – ¥17,000 | ¥4,150 |
| ZenMarket | ¥15,800 | ¥4,150 |
| Neokyo | ¥15,850 | ¥4,150 |
| Tenso | ¥15,280 | ¥4,150 |
| FROM JAPAN | ¥15,000 | ¥4,150 |
| White Rabbit Express | ¥15,000 | ¥4,150 |

These partial sums are not a landed total. No cheapest and no fastest proxy. Domestic postage, payment fees, and the proxies' own international rates are missing or ranged, and no transit times are stored. Naming a winner would invent a number.

## Steps

1. **Copy the yen price.** Read the price on the listing yourself. JapanLanded does not fetch the page.
2. **Weigh it, or say you didn't.** Enter grams. If you leave weight blank, the tool uses an unsourced placeholder and labels it.
3. **Read pay-now separately from arrival.** The partial sum is not a landed total. Duty amounts are not calculated.
4. **Check whether it can leave Japan.** Lithium batteries, alcohol, and 100 V gear each have their own note. The result is not a customs clearance.
5. **Order on the proxy's own site.** Outbound links are public pages until affiliate programs are enrolled. We never take payment.

## Questions

### Does voltage block the shipment?

No. The export check can still be allowed. The voltage note is about whether the console will run when it arrives.
