Restrictions
Can it leave Japan?
Three rules are transcribed. Everything else is a warning without a clause-by-clause rule. The result is not a customs decision.
Lithium batteries
Japan Post international mail accepts lithium batteries only when they are installed in equipment, within the capacity limit, at most 4 cells or 2 battery packs, and the destination still accepts them.
A spare battery shipped on its own is not accepted. Ship the device, not a loose battery.
The 2024-08-30 notice lists 17 destinations that changed from accepted to not accepted. Those 17 names are copied in full. The notice says the live accept-list is still on the country-conditions page, notes 2 and 3. That page was not fetched, so this is not an allow-list of every other country.
The 2024-08-30 notice names 17 destinations that changed from accepted to not accepted. All 17 are copied: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Angola, Ghana, Greece, Croatia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Georgia, Zimbabwe, Sweden, Spain, Tanzania, Czechia, Norway, Hungary, Bulgaria. Armenia, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Georgia are on that notice but were not on the EMS country list read on 2026-10-15, so they are not estimator destinations. The notice points at a live accept-list that was not fetched. An unlisted country is not a clearance.

100 V gear
Japan is 100 V. Eastern Japan is 50 Hz and western Japan is 60 Hz.
A label that reads 100–240 V needs a plug adapter. A 100 V-only device needs a step-down transformer. That is Yamaha's FAQ guidance, not a promise that a given pedal will work.
Effects pedals usually use a separate AC adapter. Amplifiers need extra caution.
Read the label. This tool does not identify which products are 100 V-only.
Alcohol
Japan Post international mail can carry alcohol only at 24% ABV or below, and only where the destination allows it.
Buyee, re-read on 2026-10-15: 24% or below goes by Japan Post. 24.1% or above goes by DHL. Austria and Finland are DHL-only for alcoholic beverages below 60% ABV. Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, and Vietnam can take 24% or below by Japan Post, and Buyee says alcohol above 24% cannot be shipped there. Buyee lists Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, Guam, India, Italy, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United States, France, and Sweden as prohibiting the import.
Tenso, re-read the same day: Japan Post is for ABV under 24%, and DHL is for ABV under 70%, with a per-country table. A country is treated as blocked when that table marks both columns unavailable, or when Buyee's prohibition list contains it. The shared result is one answer for every proxy.
ZenMarket, Neokyo, FROM JAPAN, and White Rabbit alcohol country tables were not opened. US state law was not researched.
Bahrain is an example of a destination that refuses alcohol in Japan Post's nonmailable-articles result.
A 2023 comment from ZenMarket's Reddit account said DHL to the UK was stopped for whisky and that sake could go by EMS. That is a dated anecdote, not a current rule. Tenso's copied row for the United Kingdom marks both Japan Post and DHL available.
Sake can be worth describing for some destinations in the EU, the UK, Australia, and parts of Asia. That is a scope note, not an allow-list.
Whisky reaches few countries and is not a main category. Age checks and alcohol-advertising rules also apply and are not modeled.
Sake and whisky have information pages. The estimator will not offer a referral for them. Sake
Named, but not ruled

- Camera and instrument parcels can be expensive. Ask the proxy about insurance. No premium is stored here.
